Infrared and ebay filter

For some time I wanted to get into IR photography myself – but decent articles how to actually get good IR pictures are scarse. Most of them are all about history of IR light, techniques used in film days. There are 2 choices: either use IR filters or get your (expensive) camera converted for IR specifically. (the latter costing over $300 for conversion only) I decided to go with filters.

The standard filter people are using for IR  seems to be the Hoya R72, but with larger diameters they  get quite expensive (up to 200-300$) that’s quite alot of money still when there’s  no guarantee that it will work. Cos not all cameras/lenses are suitable for IR photography. So I decided to get myself a cheap$20  ebay filter.

Which I totally regret now -  I wasted hours today and not getting the results I want. Normally I will not hesitate to buy a noname brand photography accesory,  which costs only a fraction compared to the official product. (like come on Canon, $35 for a plastic hood!?) but in case of filters, you get what you paid for it seems.
